México Negro Celebrates African Heritage in San Miguel de Allende

The third edition of the festival will bring together film, music, talks, workshops, and performing arts from September 1 to 5 under the theme “Our Third Root.”
From September 1 to 5, the San Miguel de Allende Public Library will host the Third México Negro Festival, Our Third Root, an event dedicated to recognizing the presence and contributions of African heritage in Mexico. The program will bring together film screenings, concerts, talks, workshops, and performing arts at the Library and Teatro Santa Ana.
Among the activities is a screening of La Negrada, directed by Jorge Pérez Solano, as well as a selection of short films including Nyanga and Coronas negras, accompanied by a conversation with one of the directors. The program will also feature opportunities to explore the history of the Afro-Mexican community and the African diaspora, along with family-oriented activities such as Soñando a África, by Mulato Teatro.
The program will continue through September 5 with a talk on the presence of Africans in Guanajuato’s history and a free AfroCumbia gathering.

El tercer festival reunirá cine, música, conferencias, talleres y teatro del 1 al 5 de septiembre bajo el concepto “Nuestra Tercera Raíz”.
Del 1 al 5 de septiembre, la Biblioteca Pública de San Miguel de Allende será sede del Tercer Festival México Negro, Nuestra Tercera Raíz, un encuentro dedicado a reconocer la presencia y las aportaciones de la herencia africana en México. La programación reunirá cine, conciertos, conferencias, talleres y propuestas escénicas en la Biblioteca y el Teatro Santa Ana.
Entre las actividades destaca la proyección de La Negrada, de Jorge Pérez Solano, así como una selección de cortometrajes que incluye Nyanga y Coronas negras, acompañada por una conversación con uno de sus directores. El programa también contempla espacios para abordar la historia de la comunidad afromexicana y la diáspora afrodescendiente, además de actividades familiares como Soñando a África, de Mulato Teatro.
La programación se extiende hasta el 5 de septiembre con una conferencia sobre la presencia africana en la historia de Guanajuato y un encuentro de AfroCumbia de entrada libre.
