Cabalgata de los Conspiradores: A Historic Ride Through San Miguel’s Past

The town of San Miguel el Grande was the setting for some of the earliest insurgent movements and the home of Ignacio Allende and Juan Aldama.
A few days ago, San Miguel de Allende welcomed a new edition of the Cabalgata de los Conspiradores, a tradition that each September revisits one of the episodes connected to the early days of Mexico’s Independence. The ride commemorates the journey undertaken by Ignacio Pérez Álvarez in 1810, when he left Querétaro to bring Ignacio Allende the news that the conspiracy had been discovered. He later continued to Dolores to inform Miguel Hidalgo.
The ride follows the roads connecting Querétaro and Guanajuato, symbolically retracing the route of the warning that accelerated the beginning of the insurgent movement. With 40 consecutive years of being held, the tradition has also become one of the events that mark the beginning of the region’s national holiday celebrations. The journey keeps the connection between history and memory alive by bringing an episode that forms part of San Miguel de Allende’s historical identity back to the roads and communities of the Bajío.

La villa de San Miguel el Grande fue escenario de algunos de los primeros movimientos insurgentes y hogar de Ignacio Allende y Juan Aldama.
Hace unos días, San Miguel de Allende recibió una nueva edición de la Cabalgata de los Conspiradores, una tradición que cada septiembre recupera uno de los episodios vinculados con los primeros momentos de la Independencia de México. El recorrido recuerda el viaje que realizó Ignacio Pérez Álvarez en 1810, cuando salió de Querétaro para llevar a Ignacio Allende la noticia de que la conspiración había sido descubierta. Posteriormente, continuó hacia Dolores para informar a Miguel Hidalgo.
La cabalgata se realiza por los caminos que conectan Querétaro y Guanajuato, retomando simbólicamente la ruta de aquel aviso que aceleró el inicio del movimiento insurgente. Con 40 años de realización ininterrumpida, la tradición se ha convertido también en uno de los actos que marcan el comienzo de las celebraciones patrias en la región. El recorrido mantiene vigente la relación entre historia y memoria, al llevar nuevamente a las rutas y comunidades del Bajío un episodio que forma parte de la identidad histórica de San Miguel de Allende.
